It’s that time of year, when major beauty brands roll out their latest additions for the Autumn Season. Some of the announcements are predictable (oh look, another matte lipstick). But among the pile of gimmicks and colors that look amazing on the shelf (but you’ll never wear in real life), a few beautiful surprises have floated to the surface.
Dior appropriately warmed things up with the release of the new En Diable makeup collection. Peter Philips (the man who arguably made Chanel relatable enough to attract younger consumers) threw up shades of oranges, coppers and rusts to create a color palette that suits a wide range of skin tones. In addition to new limited edition lipsticks and lip stains, the collection features a fiery orange blush that lives up to its name: Stand Out.
FENTY Beauty got a jump on the season with the release of the new Moroccan Spice Eyeshadow Palette. The collection of mattes, shimmers and glitters can be mixed and matched any number of ways, as the company continues to illustrate on its Instagram page. Proving that it really understands its target audience, Fenty encourages followers to get involved by reposting pictures of a wide range of makeup looks featuring the palette.
Pat McGrath continues her makeup campaign of shock and awe with the release of her next eyeshadow palette MOTHERSHIP V: Bronze Seduction. It would be easy to blame McGrath’s meteoric rise on her already well established presence in the beauty industry. But the release of her UNLIMITED collection of eye and lip products are so well crafted and expertly executed that fans will likely have no issue dropping $125 on the new palette when it’s released September 7th.
And increasingly, it seems that makeup companies are getting the memo about including a wide range of shades and undertones in their foundations. This season, Clarins released its first serum base makeup. The Skin Illusion Foundation comes in 22 shades, which is a major improvement over the company’s traditional 9 to 12 shades. Still true to its core consumer base, the new foundation uses plant oils like Red Janina and Mary’s Thistle to soften and hydrate skin. A combination of pigments and blur technology help skin appear flawless. The coverage is sheer to medium with a reported 10 hours of wear.
