I never cared for dressing up and going out on Halloween, and as luck would have it, I was given the opportunity to see an opera, INVISIBLE CITIES, which was held at Union Station in Los Angeles on October 31, 2013. This time I made an exception.

Dateline 2013—the Supreme Court upholds civil rights, overturning DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act). This was a landmark year for LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender) after many strides and setbacks, marking the last decade for human rights for Gay Pride Day throughout America, which took on new and jubilant significance.

Held on March 22, Sue Wong presented a dynamic collection of luxury cocktail dresses during the El Paseo Fall 2013 Fashion Week in Palm Desert, CA. Her usual array of flapper-style designs was particularly relevant for the theme of her show.  Wong’s collection was inspired by the effervescent exuberance of the jazz age, epitomized by F. Opening with the song “Fight,” the crowd went crazy as the band chanted the hook, “fight, fight, fight!” The high energy song was the perfect opener, and if screaming fans and a packed house were any indicator for the success of a band, then Oleander’s come back fits the bill.

At Pier 57 on February 8, 2013, in New York City, Sally LaPointe showcased her Fall 2013 collection. The diversity of the pieces were amazing. This dark, goth-inspired collection had a bit of an 80s feel to it. However, the references to other influences are endless: Matrix, futuristic styles, flared-hemmed tops, bare-backed silhouettes, and even startling feminine pieces.
