Fall 2011 Collection Presented a Variety of Looks for the Modern Woman Ethnically, Politically, and CulturallyThe L.A.M.B. Fall 2011 Collection at Lincoln Center during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week New York was all about modern womanhood politically, ethnically, and culturally. The show began with an electrifying video montage spanning the 1960s to present day—the first segment was about war. Several groups of smartly styled models halted military style in front of their rear-projected anthems before each walked one at a time down the runway in her specially themed L.A.M.B. uniform. With her models, designer Gwen Stefani showed a racial diversity unparalleled by other shows I had witnessed this week. I loved how she chose to close her show with the squadron of blondes (as predicted by the previously projected images of herself prior to the models’ march down the runway). Each look overall was styled to the hilt with a subtle 70s-inspired running theme and updated hair and makeup. Looks ranged from menswear coats, ties, blazers, pleated pants, camouflage, Navajo prints, and styled with black boots and black shoes. There were also feminine looks of striped jersey maxis and glamorous silk chiffon minis.
Gwen Stefani broke down her L.A.M.B. Fall 2011 Collection in these six groups:
GROUP ONE – SOLDIER GIRLS
Looks were trench coats, men’s cropped pants, tailcoats, leather leggings, wool bustiers, 70s-inspired jersey skirts, camouflage floral print blouses, styled with black boots and shoes.
GROUP TWO – RAGGA MUFFIN GIRLS
These models wore Navajo-inspired prints with silk chiffon mint dresses, boot cut crepe stretch pants, menswear sweater vests, maxis, punker pants, and boiled wool striped vests.
GROUP THREE – LONDON GIRLS
The models were styled with a Punker‘s edge as they sported 70s-inspired motorcycle jackets, menswear blazers, stretch leather leggings, menswear cufflink cotton shirts, leather and army pants, flannel tailcoats, wool wrap coats, silk-printed L.AM.B. ties, and plaid punker pants.
GROUP FOUR – BUFFALO GIRLS
Gwen Stefani mixed it up a lot with cool patchwork sweaters, fitted blazers, double crepe shorts with hanging pockets, wrap maxi cashmere coats, and classic cashmere turtlenecks.
GROUP FIVE – MOD GIRLS
This fun look consisted of deep pleated menswear pants, snow leopard print dress with hanging pockets, multi-dotted bustier tunic, mod inspired tunic dress, and long silk striped chiffon gown.
GROUP SIX – GLAMOUR GIRLS
Blonde bombshells walked the ramp in jaw-dropping black ranging from wide legged palazzo pants to halter jumpsuits and back bowed mini dresses. Fabrics ranged from silk chiffon to jersey.
L.A.M.B. was a colorful show with exciting looks for fall. Gwen Stefani touched on some powerful, yet timely issues with her designs and showcased a line of clothing that was received well. The L.A.M.B. Fall 2011 Collection will be a success with or without Stefani’s supreme production values witnessed on her runway!
