It’s 2022, and Agenda gives the world something different to take the focus off of the pandemic. In spite of the bumps in the road in 2021, the multicultural fashion and lifestyle magazine and its staff thrived in its mist – Agenda continued to put out compelling journalism, reviews, and photography! From a Queen’s Gambit-themed editorial with designer Ana Fritz, and featuring hats from the award-winning NETFLIX series, Queen’s Gambit, to Ralph Lauren’s celebrity-attended fragrance launch, “Ralph Lauren Club,” the January 2022 Issue #17, “Couture Paper Dolls” is filled with dynamic content for the new year. Agenda introduces cover model Lita Cline who stars in the editorial “Queen of the Night.” This fashion story is photographed by Udo Spreitzenbarth and styled by Ty-Ron Mayes (Fashion Whisperer). As an Entertainment Manager (Lionel Richie, Chaka Khan), Glenna Gaffney recalls, “As a little girl, I used to play with paper dolls and I would make their clothes, because I didn’t like the ones that came with the dolls. I have always been creative as far back as I can remember.” Glenna’s dolls are unique, styled with new fashions that include Swarovsky crystals and handmade hair from paper bags. From Black Design Collective, Agenda interviews Renaldo Barnette, a designer and illustrator who has worked with Ralph Lauren, Patrick Kelly, Anne Klein, Nicole Miller, Yansi Fugel, and Badgley Mishcka, among others. Barnette conceptualized BrookLynn, a paper doll-turned comic book.
“I remember when I saw the model Gail O’Neill in ’84-’85, I thought, ‘wow, she looks like a doll.’ I remember thinking she could be like a comic book. I had been toying with the idea for decades. Finally, 10 years ago, I gave her a name. So that’s how BrookLynn was born. But she’s a combination of girlfriends of mine that I knew as models, like Gail O’Neill, Coco Mitchell, Karen alexander . . . All those Black American girls who were like Millie the Model, but Black. “You should know that by some estimates, paper dolls have been around for hundreds or even thousands of years. Faces and (sometimes) objects were applied to the paper and used during rituals in the Asian cultures many centuries ago. The Japanese used paper for origami, and dating back to 800 AD, they folded paper figurines in the shape of kimonos. Balinese people made paper and leather into puppets since before the Common Era. Other cultures around the world have had paper formations or paper art. No clothes were made to be used with the dolls back then. Celebrity Stylist Ty-Ron Mayes appeared on the set of the new miniseries, And Just Like That. His article reveal gives fun facts about the show, which stars three of the original Sex and the City cast members Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon. “And Just Like That is all about inclusion with out-of-the-box personas and angst-riddled teens, promising to be juicy, messy, and so sexy! Zac Baldwin reviews movies made from books – “Die Hard is a very good thriller novel. It is very different than the movie with Bruce Willis, but a very enjoyable, good read. A lot of people consider the movie Die Hard to be a Christmas movie, since that is the time it is set.
