Wow, what a year for fashion! 2018 was all about embracing our unique differences, and fashion followed suit and dutifully transformed to the needs of consumers.
“The customer is the final filter. What survives the whole process is what people wear. I’m not interested in making clothes that end up in some dusty museum.” – Marc Jacobs
Makeup spoke volumes in its duality. The pendulum swung from bold, unusual colors, ginormous lashes, goth eye makeup to barely there looks with a hint of rose on the cheeks. The fashion world has definitely reached its adolescence!
And the unrelenting catwalks around the world followed popular trends of individuality.
Men’s clothes had their own unique twists and turns, while the traditionally female uniform diametrically shifted to become more dramatic for purposes of utility, including post-apolcalyptic themes especially ruled in 2018.
The lines were definitely beginning to blur in both fashion and gender. New styles, colors, textiles, and accessories were introduced especially sustainable fabrics.
Have you noticed that ridiculously casual looks became the norm in 2018? For instance, fur slippers were being worn outdoors! In fact Kim Kardashian started her own slippers line, called Kimoji fur slippers. I spotted a woman in a sequin gown at a formal event wearing comfy fuzzy slippers with the exception of a 1-inch heel. It never ceases to amaze me how these trends cross continents.
“Fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life.” – Bill Cunningham
2018 fashion runway moments:
Fashion is always changing and yet it still manages to incorporate the past, present, and future. Never perfect, but never wrong, it’s but a mere statement of where we are as a society at any given time in history. One thing is guaranteed, fashion will never stop evolving . . . and neither will we.
